March 2019: Yoga Stops Traffic Fundraiser 3/9 and Spring Yoga Workshop w/ Bhavani 3/16-17

Aloha and Namaskara,

I recently went to a gathering where beloved Kumu (teacher) Sabra Kauka offered a traditional Hawaiian blessing. She spoke of the importance of following one’s drinking water back to its source. Water is our primary nourishment and the well-spring of all life. She invited us to search for the origin of our drinking water and malama - take care of this treasure to ensure that it remains a pure resource for future generations.

We completed the last module of the 500 hour teacher training this February. It was a very moving gathering. The participants are devoted to maintaining the purity of Yoga as higher education in their function as mentors to their Yoga communities. We spent approximately 2 hours daily learning the Samadhi Pada of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra. On the final day, we chanted the 1st chapter in its entirety with tears of gratitude in our eyes. It is the first time I have ever taken a group through the entire first Pada which maps out the potential of human consciousness. Although it seems daunting to even aspire to the states of consciousness Patanjali describes, in his very scientific manner, it becomes apparent that it is a process that ultimately culminates in Samadhi and Kaivalya – perfect freedom.

New Course Format:
Specialized study applicable towards teacher certification
Be sure to check out our extensive offerings on Kaua’I for personal study, retreat or towards a teaching certificate. My new format allows you to attend 6 day sessions that all begin with Yoga Practice, and then specialized study in Philosophy, Psychology and the Yoga Sutra, Reading bodies- Alignment Clinics, Anatomy and Physiology as well as Teaching Skills.

By Heart
The final certification for the 500 hour graduates includes that they learn this first Pada of the Yoga Sutra by heart. This is inline with our Parampara (lineage) of Krishnamacharya, who would not expound on the Sutra’s content until students  memorized the first two Pada.

Not only will this wisdom be preserved in its purity and potency for future generations, but also resonate deeply within these teachers to become part of the fabric of their very being. It has inspired me to empower others to learn the first and second Pada in their entirety, and to revivify the very heartbeat of Yoga in its constant resystemizing and popularization. I am excited to continue to develop courses both online and in person to support students in this incredible journey of Self-reflection to deepen and intensify their yogik path.
