Shant-email October Newsletter WINDS OF CHANGE: Big News!

Aloha Yoga Hanalei O'hana,

Blessings to you and your ohana in this beautiful fall season. It is a time of ripening, fruition and harvest of all our good works. This past October we wrapped our annual 200 hour teacher training. It is the most potent time of my year and a sheer joy to work with students deeply invested in their exploration of Self through Yoga. Also this October, two of my classes were released on the online platform Yogadownload.com with many more to come.

Over the past 2 decades we have trained hundreds of teachers, many of whom have started Yoga studios of their own. The impact of our collective and shared investment in building and sustaining healing community never ceases to amaze me. I am continuously inspired by the accounts many of you have shared in how our school has transformed your lives for the better, the aloha you feel here, and that there is no place quite like Yoga Hanalei.

Winds of Change: Big News

For the past few years I have been contemplating and reevaluating my life’s trajectory and how I apply the teachings to my own practice. My path has me teaching more on the road and I am growing further into exploring my expanded role as a mother, author and Yoga teacher through different mediums and platforms. It has been through a long process of soul-searching that inspires me to finally let go as a studio owner/program director and focus on my other offerings as an educator and author. I pray to find a trustworthy successor to guide Yoga Hanalei into its next chapter. This has not been an easy decision for me. Although change is always difficult, I recognize it as natural and at the heart and essence of Yoga practice. I find courage and strength in that Yoga Hanalei has a consistent steady momentum and identity of its own. I feel that someone else would more suited to steward the shala, and that my personal efforts are best utilized in their focus on deeper study and sharing of the eight limbs.

Who will step forward to lead Yoga Hanalei?

Now I wonder, whose dream it is to take over Yoga Hanalei and guide our community which spans far beyond the Garden Island, to which so many of you return year after year?

I trust in my heart that the right person will present them self. It has always been my highest vision that someone from our extended Yoga community would take up the reins. As I feel a deep kuleana to all of you who have become ohana, I want to share this with you straight from my heart and within our family first. I have only just begun to explore new ownership possibilities. I am inspired by the prospect of a new owner/director that will infuse our beautiful shala with a fresh surge of enthusiasm and creativity to carry it forward as a communal gathering place for healing and growth. Rest assured, I will be available to offer classes in this new chapter and support the transition if desired.

Reminiscing over the past 20 years, I am deeply moved by the immense privilege to actualize my dream of exploring the teachings of Yoga and holding sacred space for a yogik community. The caliber of individuals who gather here are truly Mahattvas – great souls dedicated to service, growth in body, heart and mind, to embody love and radiate peace. I am so filled by the gift of communing with you in the spirit of learning, supporting and growing together. We have lifted one another up in so many ways and our bonds have grown inseparable.

Together we integrate life’s evolutionary lessons and realize our resilience to navigate life's unfolding.

It has been said that "the teacher empowers the student and the student empowers the teacher". On 9-9-1999 the monks from the Kaua’i Hindu Monastery blessed the opening of our Yogashala and invited us to become a place of higher education and "a great Yoga university". Almost 20 years later, Yoga Hanalei has seeded the birth of many Yoga communities near and far. You have empowered me personally to deepen my studies and then write a book based on Yoga Hanalei's curriculum that has sold over five thousand copies and touched many more. The Yogi’s Roadmap has become a part of teacher trainings globally, and the teachers we have trained have opened schools and now train others to teach. As I reflect, I am filled with gratitude. I am deeply moved by the energy and blessings our school continues to generate and am confidently embracing the mystery of the future unknown.
